I Found Out That I Don't Exist

The news is in! I am now in Harlingen. Harlingen is a Hillsboro sized city a little bit north of Brownsville.

I am now in the area of Sunshine in Harlingen 1st Ward. It is definitely one of the largest areas in the mission. It is the northern part of Harlingen all the way to Raymondville and Port Mansfield. Raymondville is about 30 miles north and Port Mansfield is another 20 miles east of there. We actually have a less active member in Port Mansfield that we see once a month. It is pretty awesome.

We share the area with the Zone Leaders. We are in English and they cover Spanish. That change happened a month ago here and 3-4 months ago in McAllen (when I got moved).

My companion is Elder Boyer. He and I entered this mission on the same day, however he was reassigned here so he had served a year before. I met him in the Houston Airport on the way to McAllen. He is the District Leader here and we have a super awesome district.

Our zone leaders are Elder Pope (my first district leader) and now Elder Latu (Born in Tonga, I think that is pretty cool). Elder Latu came here with a whole bunch of enthusiasm and got everyone pumped. We just had district meeting today and looking back at last week we had a ton of success and we are set up to have a lot of success in June.

​The work is certainly progressing. There was quite a drought in the past couple months. We actually had some record low numbers as a mission, but we are definitely not ​there anymore. 

​I love being a missionary.​

Here's a crazy story from this week:

I came here to Sunshine and found out that Elder Boyer did not have driving privileges. I had gotten my Tiwi card (car login) a couple transfers ago so I was the driver. 3 days into the week we got a call from the APs.

Elder Boyer answered and the conversation went as such.

Worley: Elder Boyer, are you driving?

Boyer: No.

Worley: Who's driving?

Boyer: Elder Moss.

W: Does Elder Moss have driving privileges?

B: He has a Tiwi card, so I assume so.

W: Hold on. Let me check... Elder Moss doesn't have driving privileges.

B: How does that work?

W: I don't know. Let me check something else... *He searches me in the computer* ...Elder Moss isn't in the system.

B: Should I tell him he is going home?

W: I don't know, let me check President's desk... No, he isn't going home.

Therefore, I found out that I don't exist.

For some reason everything is messed up. My companion got his privileges so he is driving now, but I have no idea what they are going to do with me.

We Just Kept On Going

It was the final week of the Transfer!

You could say it was a slow week.
The investigator pool seems a little dry right now despite how wet Portland has been.

We had a huge thunderstorm on Friday with tornado and flash flood warnings all afternoon and we could hardly see the bay.

At least we had time to contact all of our less actives. There is only one name left that we don't recognize. Other than that one, we either have met the people or now know that they moved.

We even taught one lady and then one hour later her member friend called us and told us to stop teaching her.

It's just one of those faith building weeks. We just kept on going.

I still have no clue if I'm going or staying tomorrow morning so next week will include my location. Have a good week y'all!

Big News!

The biggest news this week is a baptism. Caleb King went down in the water!

I baptized Caleb on Saturday and he was confirmed the next day at church. His family is coming back to church and they are super excited about all of it.

I also got to go on an exchange with Elder Sawyer this week. We worked super hard and hit all of our goals. We actually hit one of our weekly goals in a single day.

We just keep on working and wish we could sleep more.

Mother's day was fun too. We had 6 missionaries in one house making calls throughout the day. It took quite awhile and we were late to our appointments but it could have been worse. Moms come first.

Hu Dat?!

Another wonderful week in sunny Portland, Texas!

We actually had great weather this week. All week we had sunshine and nearly 0% humidity paired with a nice, cool breeze. Some of the other Elders say it is the best weather they have seen in the mission. Guess I lucked out.

We did a lot of exchanging this week. First of all we got a surprise call last Monday that my companion had to go down to McAllen (2.5 hours south) for the night. I went with the other two Elders in Portland for a little while. 

Tuesday evening he came back but we did another exchange. I went with Elder Velez in his area and because the month was ending we had no miles allowed for the month to switch back until Friday.

I had a lot of fun though.

With Elder Velez we met a crazy guy with the best job ever. He is the landscaper for a Harley-Davidson dealer. The house is right on the coast and is absolutely beautiful.

Friday evening the Dement's took all 6 of us missionaries out to eat at Hu Dat (Vietnamese restaurant). Their daughter works there so it was that much better.

We had a really busy Sunday but it was great. We taught Caleb King and he should be getting baptized this Sunday. He is 9 years old. We have been working with Reactivating the King family and Caleb getting baptized is a great bonus.
