The Holy Ghost Is Great

Hello everybody! 

Sorry this email is late. Yesterday instead of taking our preparation day, we drove to McAllen to hear from the one and only Jeffrey R. Holland and the wonderful Lynn G. Robbins.

We spent the whole day driving. That is the beauty of being in Laredo. It was super worth the 6 hours in the car though. They were super cool and fun. We even got to take a mission photo with them. 

Also, we had transfers last week. I stayed in Rio Bravo and I got a new companion, Elder Russell. Changing companions is always weird but we seem to be getting along pretty well. 

It is still really hot here in Laredo. It is also dry. 

I think the biggest thing we learned from Elder Holland is the importance of the Spirit. We have the Holy Ghost to be with us all the time and we really under-appreciate him. The Godhead consists of: 

1. The Father 

2. The Son 

3. The Holy Ghost

The Spirit is literally a God. He is literally the 3rd greatest, most powerful being in the universe. And we take him for granted. The Holy Ghost is great. Look how happy he is.

Oh boy, transfers! Who knows what is going to happen?

We are going to find out later today where I will be and with whom I will be.

I actually don't have a ton of time today, but I will let y'all know next week what happens! Later today if possible, we'll see!

This week we had interviews with President. It was his last set of interviews because he goes home in less than 3 months. I had fun and learned a lot, even though we had to get up at 4:30 am to get to the meeting at 7. 'Twas good though.

Whatever Gets the Youth Working

Last week before transfers! It may be my last week with Elder Peake!

This week there was a service project that the young men were doing for one of the members in our area. It was mostly just yard clean-up and stuff, but whatever gets the youth working is a good thing in my book.

Also, the best part of the whole service project is that we didn't help! I fooled you all. We were proselyting in our area and found them when they were finishing up. They are loading up the tractor in the photo. Elder Peake just grabbed the rake to look like we helped. He did actually do a little bit of raking but we were pretty late.

Anyways, there isn't a whole lot more to share for this week. Next week I will be finding out where I will be. All I know is that I will still be a DL [District Leader] because only one Elder and one Sister go home this transfer. Which means I will not be needed as a ZL. Hopefully I stay!

Kind Of Like A Dad

Hello world!

I want you all to see the beauty of Laredo. We have a shack on the right and a mansion on the left. This place is crazy. 

There are nice neighborhoods and ghetto neighborhoods, but sometimes they just mix themselves up and you find random mansions in the middle of the street. It makes no sense.

We got super chastised this week. It was awesome! First of all we didn't do so well on our goals as a mission, so on the 31st, Thursday, President Maluenda called all the leadership down to McAllen to talk to us. The Zone Leaders and Sister Leaders go down once a month anyways for MLC [Missionary Leadership Council], and they started at 9:30. They invited District Leaders to join them at 1:30. Again it was a 2 hour meeting 3 hours away, 6 hours in the car for 2 hours of meeting. But it was actually worth it this time! We learned a ton. Super good. And I got to see all my mission friends!

Then in General Conference this weekend they spoke boldly and powerfully, especially in the Priesthood Session. It was awesome. My favorite talk was by D. Todd Christofferson. It was just full of the Spirit. It just makes me want to be a great father. As a district leader, I'm kind of like a dad for 5 other missionaries, so the talk inspired me to help and love and serve my kids.
